Andreas ZAGKLIS

Andreas Zagklis has been the Secretary General of International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since 2018. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Athens after spending two semesters at the University of Salamanca and the University of Western Ontario respectively. As an attorney, he represented athletes, clubs and federations and worked at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) during three Olympic Games. He served FIBA as external legal advisor and then Legal Director for nine years. As Secretary General, he has overseen milestones like the FIBA Basketball World Cups in 2019 and 2023, and the 3x3 tournaments in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics.

He guided FIBA through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and in expanding women’s basketball globally, boosting female representation at all levels. Under his leadership FIBA partnered with the NBA to create the Basketball Africa League, while expanding its club competition footprint with the launch of Basketball Champions League Americas, Basketball Champions League Asia and the revamp of the Intercontinental Cup. He is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations Council and of the International Olympic Committee Coordination Commission for Los Angeles 2028.
