Jacqueline LAI

Jacqueline Lai represents Hong Kong, China in equestrian show jumping.

Raised in Hong Kong, she began horse-riding at the age of 10. In 2009, at 18, she moved to Germany to pursue the sport professionally. A year later, she joined the Hong Kong team which won its first Asian Games medal in equestrian sport, marking an important milestone for the city. She has since then represented Hong Kong, China at four Asian Games.

One of her most significant achievements was competing at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon, USA, with a horse she had developed herself. She continues to focus on producing horses for top-level competition, with the ambition of bringing more horses through to the highest tiers of the sport.

Throughout her career, she has also achieved success at the National Games of China, winning a team bronze medal in 2009 and an individual silver medal in 2013. In her third National Games appearance in 2025, she placed fifth individually. Beyond pursuing sporting excellence, she is committed to helping build a stronger pathway for professional equestrian athletes from Hong Kong and the wider region.

She is currently based in the Netherlands, where she operates her own sport stable and continues to develop horses for top-level competition. She remains committed to advancing the profile of equestrian sport in Hong Kong and creating pathways for future athletes from the region.
