LEI Guangchun

Lei Guangchun is a Professor at Beijing Forestry University, Chair of the East Asia-Australasia Flyway University Alliance, and the Chair of Board of Directors, Shenzhen Mangrove Conservation Foundation.

He joined Beijing Forestry University in 2008. He has more than 40 years of experience in nature conservation including conservation practice at local, national and international organizations, as well as a researcher in conservation biology with more than 240 publications in peer-reviewed international journals. He served as the Chair of Ramsar STRP (2020-2022), and is currently the Vice Chair of China National Wetland Science Committee as well as the Director of the Center for East Asia-Australasian Flyway Studies. Prior to joining Beijing Forestry University, he served as the Senior Advisor for the Asia-Pacific region at the Ramsar Convention Secretariat (2003-2007). Previously, he was a Professor at Peking University (1999-2003), and Deputy Director of the Division of Nature Conservation in Hunan Province, China (1988-1993). In recognition of his contribution to wetland science and conservation, Wetlands International awarded him the Luc Hoffmann award in 2018.

He obtained his PhD in Ecology at the Faculty of Science, Helsinki University in 1997.
